Al paso con Tuililin is committed to making this website usable by anyone, on whatever device and in whatever way suits them best.

Level of conformance

This site is fully conformant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA, and it also meets almost all of the criteria at level AAA, the most demanding of the three.

Saying it that precisely is more useful than rounding up. From level AAA the site meets the 7:1 contrast ratio, the target sizes, the line length, the absence of automatic movement and the location criterion. Several others do not apply at all: this site has no video and no audio, so the sign language and media alternative criteria are out of scope; and it has no forms at all, so neither do the ones about contextual help and confirming before you submit.

The exception is reading level (criterion 3.1.5), which at AAA asks for shorter sentences than this site uses. That is a considered decision: a warm text written in the first person was preferred over one trimmed to fit a measure. The language is everyday, with no jargon and no unusual words, which is what really makes a text easy to follow.

What was done to get there

  • Contrast. All text sits at a contrast ratio of at least 7:1 against its background, which is what level AAA asks for. Every colour pairing is measured, and an automated check stops publication if any of them drops below that.
  • Keyboard. Everything works without a mouse, including the photo gallery. Whatever has focus is always clearly outlined.
  • Nothing moves on its own. The gallery only advances when you ask it to, and if your system is set to reduce motion, transitions are switched off entirely.
  • Readable text. Lines never exceed 80 characters, text is not justified and line spacing is generous. The body typeface is Atkinson Hyperlegible, designed by the Braille Institute for people with low vision.
  • Large targets. Every button and action link is at least 44 × 44 pixels.
  • Described images. Every photograph has a written description for people who cannot see it.
  • Plain language. The text uses short sentences and everyday words, and an automated check flags any sentence that runs too long.

How it was checked

By self-assessment, combining automated checks that run on every publication (contrast, document structure, alternative text and sentence length) with manual keyboard testing.
